Le Central
Nestled in the heart of San Francisco at 453 Bush St, Le Central is that charming little French bistro that somehow feels like both a neighborhood secret and a local staple. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the scent of garlic butter, wine, and something delightfully savory simmering in the back. The vibe? Cozy and energetic. Think moderate noise, groups chatting over wine, and that unmistakable buzz of a place that people keep coming back to.
The menu at Le Central leans into the classics with just enough flair to keep things exciting. One standout is the French Onion Soup—rich, deeply flavorful, and topped with a golden crust of melted cheese that basically demands a photo. Another must-try? The Filet Mignon Au Poivre. It’s perfectly cooked and drizzled in a creamy peppercorn sauce that’ll have you mopping the plate with bread.
Craving seafood? Their Crab Cake is crispy on the outside, delicate and fresh inside—no unnecessary fillers, just the good stuff. And for those leaning toward hearty, slow-cooked comfort food, the Beef Bourguignon hits all the right notes: tender, wine-soaked beef with just the right touch of herbs. Want to go all out? The Rack of Lamb is a fan favorite—juicy, flavorful, and plated like a work of art.
There’s outdoor seating too, perfect for people-watching or enjoying San Francisco’s cooler evenings with a glass of Bordeaux in hand. And if you’re planning a casual hangout with friends, happy hour specials make it even more appealing.
Whether you’re in it for the atmosphere, the beautifully executed dishes, or the sense of timeless charm, Le Central makes it easy to lose track of time in the best way possible.

Being a native kid from San Francisco I would walk by LC when I worked in the Downtown area and it was always on my bucket list of restaurants to try. After all, it has a great story as being a bastion of where business deals were cut by folks such as the former Mayor Willie Brown and other movers and shakers. The former Chronicle Columnist would always throw in a barb or two about LC along with mentioning the famous Haberdasher Wilkes Bashford. On a recent Thursday afternoon, I met a colleague for lunch and pictured are what we had. Really enjoyed the coziness of the dining area along with the old school bar. Highly recommend dining here and capturing a bit of San Francisco.
Early dinner before the opera. Great, prompt and thoughtful service. Food was very good.
Quaint, delicious, and intimate make for a fun evening when lunch was too much for a loaded meal. Happy hour is a great deal & all the kitties add up to a perfect amount when you're not ready to have multiple courses. Carlos was a terrific bartender; great attitude and courteous throughout our time here!
Iconic place with classic & delicious French food. We were warmly greeted and seated at the window table that is famous for being the favorite table of former Mayor Willie Brown, my favorite journalist, the late Herb Caen, and Wilkes Bashford (fashion & clothing). Their French onion soup is the best, with perfectly cooked tender onions and melted cheese over a slice of baguette. The mussels are to die for - cooked in garlic and served with toasted slices of French bread. The burger & fries (frites) are also very good served in a generous portion as everything else here. Their sliced up chicken roll is tasty but we were already getting too full to finish it. For dessert we had the Apple Tartine which had a buttery thin crust topped with lots of spiced apples slices. Overall it was an excellent meal in a nice & relaxing and environment with good service. I can certainly understand why folks like coming here again and again.
Such a lovely authentic French experience. Very romantic lunch with my husband. I felt very well cared for by our server and can't praise the delicious food enough. It had been a number of years since we have been regulars but that will change now! I cannot wait to return.
